ISyncLDAP’s presentation for iPhone and iPad

ISyncLDAP is the best app to synchronize the native iPhone contacts directory with an OpenLDAP.

After syncing, you should get all your OpenLDAP contacts available to every native iPhone / iPad app, especially phone, mail and global search.

Features :

Using ISyncLDAP :

ISyncLDAP is available from the AppStore.

By clicking the +, rapidly configure your LDAP servers. In the screenshot, we have already added ours.

Adding a LDAP server is generally easy. Obtain the login information from your IT administrator.

When selecting a configured LDAP server, ISyncLDAP will display the contacts that have been retrieved from a precedent synchronization..

This is the main screen. It appears after clicking the LDAP server you want to synchronize your local directory with, and selecting the Menu button on the bottom menu.

What the commands do :

  • Importer les contacts : will retrieve the whole database from the LDAP server.
  • Synchroniser : will update the iPhone / iPad local contacts directory with the LDAP entries the first button has just retrieved.
  • Purger : use this if you need to erase all the LDAP entries that have been added to the iPhone / iPad local contacts directory.
  • Divers : will display what contacts have been either added, either updated since the last synchronization.

The configuration screens make it possible to refine the way the synchronization will behave. There, you can manage the linking between LDAP and iPhone fields.

Default parameters should generally suit most configurations, as they are usual OpenLDAP settings.

Only Authentication should be checked. Authentication setting depends on the mechanism your IT administrator has installed.

General settings concerning the LDAP server.

Choosing the authentication mechanism.

ISyncLDAP presently supports these mechanisms :

  • Simple
  • Digest-MD5
  • CRAM-MD5

Please note that SSL is not supported yet. It should be available in a future ISyncLDAP release..

First screen about the linking between LDAP and iPhone fields. Default linkings should be fine to most ISyncLDAP users.

Second screen about the linking between LDAP and iPhone fields. Default linkings should be fine to most ISyncLDAP users.

Let's click the « Importer les contacts » button. In a matter of seconds, our 700 LDAP entries have been retrieved.

If we now click the « Synchroniser » button, we finally have our local iPhone directory synchronized with the retrieved LDAP entries.

Synchronization is done. Our local directory is now updated.
